When you sit in an office room where the energy goes low - its is perhaps time to turn on a music show

Dear blog reader,

Your office life might have changed in the direction towards a different on than when your professional career started. Away from an own room, a lot of productive time on your own and meetings limited to a line meeting and a project meeting per week. The journey continued through more frequent meetings, more different types of meetings and your office cubicle turned into an open office space.

The next step in the evolution is where the meeting with other people take the central role. Meetings that easily can consume a full working day, a full working week, or the better part of your scheduled working month. At this point both you and your employer both have reached the conslusion that your office desk is the least visited place and that a hot desk on the roll is starting to make sense.

An essential part of your daily work then becomes the role of giving energy to meeting participants in meetings and getting energy from fellow meeting participants. Energy and how to get energy into a room is perhaps the single most important factor fot improving meeting efficiency and an art that few of us master yet.

I could be time to give the freedom to meeting participants to dosk their music player to the loudspeaker for a 3-5 minute re-energizing is session at anytime during the meeting. And allowing for 60 average energy level minutes be turned into 50 high energy level meeting minutes and 10 minutes used for re-energizing and reflecting.

My personal toolbox of music has developped over the last couple of weeks since a colleague showed that music could play a key role in geeting progress in the avilable 50 minute time slots. Here are a few ideas of what it could consists of:

1. Heath of the Moment - 4:03
The workout mix by Orlando of the Asia hit. The upbeat version of a classic with a clear message to the audinece already in the title.

2. Living on a Prayer - 5:06
The Power Music remix of the Bon Jovi classic hit. The very upbeat version of the original to stress that the current. If you are short of time Stellar Karts 3:09 version on All gas No brake does the job as well.

3. Here I go again - 3:33
When you feel that some of the meetings participants fail to get the point you are trying to get across. Best energized by the Top Modelz remix of this Whitesnake classic.

4. Anyway you want it - 4:54
In a lot of situation meetings get stuck on a certain topic where progress can be acheived by selecting one of two more or less equal tracks. A breif reflection time on the Power Music remix of theis Journey classic song will make the journey faster with a clear direction

5. Every little thing she does is magic - 5:24
Sometimes there are women in the room that you think could bring more energy into the room. Why dont tease them with the Ronnie Maze Club Mix of the Police megahit.

6. Video killed the radio star - 3:42
Many meetings get stuck on points where the group fail to progress since all participants do/can/will not see the inevitable need for a chnage of track and get stuck in defending legacy positions. Time to spice up the meeting with the Ken Lazios remix of the Buggles hit.

7. Hit me with your best shot - 2:55
Sometimes you feel that the meetiong is best progressed if someone give you the action to get the issue resolved outside the current meeting. The Rock of ages Broadway musical version of the Pat Benatar classic could take the meeting across this hurdle.

8. Down Under - 5:56
Sometimes you get stuck on a point a point that can not be resolved among peers and
need to be escalated. The Australian tunes can come in handy and best in the Power Music remix

9. I don't wanna lose your love - 5:10
Sometimes as chair you feel obliged to get the meeting back on track without destroying the creativity of the participants. The Power Music remix does the job for you.

10. The adams family theme - 2:17
Sometimes there is just a need for a generel shape up across the whole line-up.

Rock songs that everybodey know singnals that there is a need to move forward
Remix of rock songs signlas that the pace need to be stepped up
And messages in the title could be used to address what you see as the fundamental blocker.

Hasta la vista
