Where to go in the Swedish countryside - when you want a special ride!

Sweden is best explored in the summer and offers a variety of opportunities to enjoy nature. This blogpost give you some ideas for a 2-3 day trip to explore the countryside in southwestern Sweden with a mix of adventure and great nature scenery.

Aim for the village of Hestra by the Isaberg mountain. Close by you will find great lodging in modern cabins and access to the local cuisine at Hestraviken or Höganloft. Start the first day with a round of golf on one of the two 18 hole courses at Isabergs Golfklubb. Break for lunch and then get ready for the Tree top adventure tour on a variety of tracks in the pine forest. Finish of the day with a canoeing on the nearby lakes and an outdoor barbecue in one if the picnic grounds.

The second day is shaped around the horse. Start with an early morning nature ride at Stall Sonakull, a 20 minute ride from Hestra. Experienced guides are taking you along trails in the woods and through open landscape. Book early as these trips sell out like ice cream in the sun. When done with the horse riding bring your kids over to High Chaparral (very close by), and watch horses from the side in a western city developed in the country side, and once Sweden’s second largest customer of wooden poles for telephone wires. Finish of the day with a three course dinner at Hestraviken, and speak to the owner Johan, and avid skier once upon a time.

The third day is a half day adventure to the motor capital of Sweden, Anderstorp, which hosted the Swedish Grand Prix in Formula 1. If you are lucky the track might be open. If not open the fun is you can enjoy it anyway on the Go-cart replica track by the main entrance. Try the 10min trial for beginners and a full Grand Prix for real race fans. No visit to Anderstorp is complete without a few relaxing moments at the local beauty salon Faces. The owner offer discounts for international travelers in exchange for recommendations on facebook or twitter.

Southwestern Sweden is best travelled by own car to, from and within the area. Activities are worth their price and the nature experiences are great. Lodging and food run less than you would pay in the cities. Easy access from main highways going through Gothenburg (120km), Halmstad (120km), Jönköping (60km) and Värnamo (45km).
