Cuba-cabana - the beaches of Cuba

Dear Blogreader,

on a vacation to a Caribbean island with sand between my toes, a few words on beach life is natural.

Playa del Este is located 20km east of Havana. Easily accessible by the local tour bus. Fronting the Atlantic ocean and bit colder than the Carribean. Long stretches of sand, and mix of locals and tourists.

Veradero is a razorthin 20km long peninsula located 2h by bus from Havana. The largest conce
ntration of 4 and 5 star hotels. Popular for charter tourists from Canada and Russia. Beaches comined with limestone rock formations. I was there a cloudy day and enjoyed the ocean breeze, the waves breaking and the nearby pools. All lightened up by a Mohito by the pool.

Cayo Largo is a small island on the Carribean side. accesible by a 30 min flight fom Havana
or Varadero. Home to an Iguana reserve. Plenty of white beaches and corall reef for snorkling and diving. I did a day trip and the mix of experience and relax was great. And the early morning departure, and the late evening return from the Havana, Baracoa to the Cayo Largo Airport is an experince in itself. Expect hand written boarding cards and departures before, on or after stipulated time.
